Leave a Legacy: Be A Part of History
Sponsor A Historical Event
The 8th Annual Danny Barker Banjo and Guitar Festival
For the past eight years New Orleans’ greats and many students of Danny Barker, such as Michael White, Gregg Stafford, Herlin Riley, Kermit Ruffins, Lucin Barbaran, Wynton Marsalis, and Wendell Brunious , have participated in the festival. The profit from the festival (apart from funds used for administrative cost, musicians’ pay, and pay for staging) go toward funding history and educational programming for high school and college students in the New Orleans area.
Last year with the help of our sponsors we were able to present to serval hundred students. In the tradition of Danny Barker himself many of Danny’s past and now infamous students lead lectures and share their own stories about how New Orleans music have impacted their lives. “If it were not for the Danny Barker Festival important historical information and the impact of and traditions of Danny’s era would be lost,” said Detroit Books, festival founder.
With your help we can preserve these great musical traditions. Leave your own legacy! Make history! Be a part of history!
