2023 DANNY BARKER BANJO AND GUITAR FESTIVAL SET FOR 3-DAY RUN – MARCH 10TH – 12TH – AT THE NEW ORLEANS JAZZ MUSEUM – PLUS EVENTS AT THE WEIN CENTER, TIPITINA’S AND SNUG HARBOR
2023 FESTIVAL TO FEATURE GRAMMY-WINNING VOCALIST CATHERINE RUSSELL AS ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
Organizers have announced the dates and lineup for the 2023 Danny Barker Banjo and Guitar Festival in New Orleans. The ninth annual festival will present events over a 6-day run – March 7, 2023 – March 12, 2023 – and will again offer a mix of live music performances, interviews, and panel discussions March 10th – 12th at the New Orleans Jazz Museum (by admission – $15 each day) – an all-star Banjo and Guitar Summit at Tipitina’s on March 9th – a pair of shows at Snug Harbor on March 10th featuring Grammy-winning vocalist Catherine Russell and the Danny Barker Tribute Band, led by Dr. Michael White – plus school clinics, a Master Class with Catherine Russell and Don Vappie at the Wein Center, and a Patron Party to kickoff the festival on the evening of March 7, 2023 at The Terrell House (live music, hors d’oeuvres, drinks, silent auction – 6p – 9p – $40 individual).
The mission of the Danny Barker Banjo and Guitar Festival is to showcase and highlight the many contributions and accomplishments of NEA Jazz Master Danny Barker: musician, singer, songwriter, educator, raconteur extraordinaire and author – who played guitar and banjo with many top jazz artists over the course of his 70 year plus career – and served as a mentor to numerous young New Orleans artists who have since come to prominence, including Wynton Marsalis, Herlin Riley, Leroy Jones, Gregg Stafford and Dr. Michael White.
